NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home

NRA Certified Instructors will teach the basics of safe gun handling
and shooting.  This course will develop in the student the basic
knowledge , skills and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use
of a handgun for protection of self and family and to provide
information on the law-abiding citizen’s right to self-defense.

This Course meets the State of Michigan Requirements for a applying for a Concealed Pistol Permit (CPL).

The course will include the following lessons:

  • Introduction to Defensive Shooting
  • Basic Defensive Handgun Skills
  • Firearms and the Law: Possession, Ownership and the Use of Deadly Force
  • Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
  • Selecting a Handgun for Self-Defense
  • Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities

Course duration is  a minimum of 8 hours not including range time. 
Class is usually taught on two consecutive weekday evenings with range
session conducted on Saturday.

Class fee is $50 for member and $75 for non-member

NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside the Home

NRA Certified Instructors will teach an intermediate shooting course
on how to use a firearm in self-defense and requires students to have
already mastered safe gun handling and basic marksmanship skills prior
to attending the course.

This course will develop in the student the basic knowledge , skills
and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the
safe, effective, responsible and ethical use of a concealed pistol for
self-defense outside the home..

This Course is not a basic shooting course and requires advanced shooting skills.

This Course presupposes that students possess the knowledge,
skills and attitudes taught in the previous course, NRA Basic Personal
Protection in the Home.

The course will include the following lessons:

  • Introduction to Concealed Carry Safety and the Defensive Mindset
  • Introduction to Self-Defense and Concealed Carry
  • Legal Aspects of Concealed Carry and Self-Defense
  • Carry modes and Concealment
  • Presenting the Pistol from Concealment
  • Presentation, Position and Movement
  • Special Shooting Techniques
  • Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities

This course  taught in Level 1 (Basic) and Level 2 (Advanced)
sections, both including range time.  Level 1 is a minimum of 9 hours
and Level 2 is a minimum of 5 hours. Class is usually taught in the
classroom on a weekday evening with range sessions conducted on
weekends.

Class fee is $75 for members and $100 for non-members

NRA Basic Pistol

NRA Certified Instructors will teach the basic knowledge, skill and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely.

The course will include the following lessons:

  • Pistol Knowledge and Safe Handling
  • Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
  • Firing the First Shot
  • Two-Handed and One-Handed Standing Shooting Positions
  • Pistol Sports and Activities

Course Duration is 10 hours.  This may vary depending on number of students and firing range activity.

Class fee is $50 for member an $75 for non-member.

NRA “First Steps” Pistol Orientation

NRA Certified Instructors will provide beginning shooters with an
introduction to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to own and
use a specific pistol model safely.

The course will include the following lessons:

  • Introduction to Pistol Safety, Parts and Operation
  • Introduction to Ammunition and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
  • Introduction to Pistol Shooting from the Benchrest Position
  • Introduction to Pistol Cleaning, Storage and Training Opportunities

Course duration is approximately 3 hours generally including firing range time.

Class fee is $35 for member and $50 for non-member

The Basics of Shotgun Shooting

NRA certified instructors will teach the basics of shooting a
shotgun. Shotgun shooting may be the most basic form of marksmanship.
This class will direct students through the fundamental steps necessary
to perform the basic skills of shot-gunning. You will learn the simple
aspects of knowing and handling your gun, basic safety issues,  and
fundamental shooting skills. This is a sport that lasts a lifetime and
is professionally presented by GBHC. This course includes one on one
instructions on how to shoot clay targets. Class time 3 hours, plus 1
hour of shooting on skeet fields.

This is not an NRA approved course.

Price $100.00 for members and $125 for non-members plus shells

Home Firearm Safety

NRA Certified Instructors will teach the basic knowledge and skills
and explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of
guns in the home.

The course will include the following lessons:

  • Rules for Safe Gun Handling
  • Identifying and Unloading Different Firearms
  • Practical Exercises in Safe Gun Handling
  • Types of Ammunition; Cleaning and Storage of Firearms

Course duration is 4 hours; all classroom.

Class fee is $25
